| ATT's (Cingular's) network was almost 100% GSM 1900 until about two years ago. Remember ATT was bankrupt with a nearly-dead TDMA network and a GSM 1900 network with very spotty coverage. Since the buyout they've been upgrading to having some 850 coverage. But considering the FSM coverage in the US, you might be better off using the iPhone on T-mob's wifi network via starbucks shops...
I'm pretty sure I had some access to EDGE on t-mob last year with my tri-band. I'll know for sure at the end of the week though... | |

Okay, I'm back. My t-mob phone had EDGE on it pretty much the entire time I was in the Seattle area with a signal. There were a few times I only had GPRS, but it was rare to be without EDGE. I only have a tri-band phone, so that was on the 1900 band.
I thought it was interesting that there were still a large number of Cingular shops out there. I'm wondering how well ATT is doing if they haven't finished their rebranding at this point.
