At times the Euroscepticism is very similar to that seen in the UK. The psyche, based on history, of "doing our own thing" certainly runs true here too. And with the Swiss they have done quite well and are not exactly short of a few bob by doing so!

It's an issue close to their hearts and therefore it should come as no surprise that populist politics should come to the fore around an election time.

But it doesn't mean the Swiss (generally speaking) are anti-foreign, they want to manage their things their way and if foreigners can help then great, but if they prove to be a threat (such as the perceived buying of lots of property) then let's shut that door. But that decision should be theirs, and theirs only. This is no different to "the greatest nation in the world" (sic), the US and no different to how it was in most of Europe in the past. I guess the Swiss, by European standards, are just "old fashioned" in this respect
