Re: What Hybrid Cars are Available in CH?

What do yous all think of the Chevy Volt and Opel Ampera?
Both are coming out at the end of the year and while at the moment overly expensive at 50-60k the idea seems to be very interesting. You've got a battery which has a range of 60km which is enough for most work journeys. You then have a small petrol powered engine which reloads the battery if you need to drive further so you can travel up to 500 km (and then retank if required I assume). It seems to be the best of both worlds.

The question for me is how reliable is the battery. The cars are comparitivly expensive. A mechanic friend said the batteries only have a life time of ten years and cost an additional 10k to change which is also very expensive compared to normal cars but like I said I think this technology is very interesting. Hopefully in a few years they'll be a lot cheaper as well
