Long time ago, one of my classmates would throw a party at an orphanage to celebrate her birthday (for a few years). You might think that's patronising but it could've been a pleasant change of routine for the children, besides having some party games and food they'd not normally get. (Well, I suppose an orphanage in a Third World country is a lot different from one in CH.)
