| Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?
Do Billag have the right to access my computer to see which programs I have installed? To explain what I mean by this question, I'll give a little info and background first.
As JVC quoted in full above, the Billag website states that you have to pay for radio if you have a broadband/high-speed connection and you have a program installed that will play radio (e.g., MediaPlayer), and you have to pay for TV if in addition to these two things you also pay for a subscription to an internet TV service.
We have no radio, no car, no radio alarm clock, and no cell phone; We have a TV, but we cannot receive incoming signals because it has no antenna, our cable socket has been plugged by the cable TV company, and we have no satellite. The TV is merely for DVD watching and the Billag website says that in this case we don't need to pay them for TV access. Therefore our internet connection is the only thing that they can catch us for, and only for the radio because we don't have an internet TV subscription that we pay for.
However, to make us pay for the radio, Billag would need to prove both of the criteria that are stated on their website: 1) that we have a broadband internet connection, but this should be easy for them to do; 2) that we have a program installed that allows us to play internet radio (e.g., MediaPlayer), this one seems much harder for them to do. To do so, they would have to access my computer and look at what programs I have installed. This therefore brings up the question as to whether Billag have the right to peruse my hard disk? I would think not, and I would therefore think that there is no need for me to pay for Billag. Does anyone have further knowledge on this topic?
