You can blame the way the mobile phone service providers work for the lack of an affordable iPhone in Europe, also Apple has to negotiate revenue sharing with the carriers which is a whole new concept, it's never been proposed before.

Swisscom will most likely be the carrier of choice for Switzerland but there is no official statement to this fact yet. Also, next month is MacWorld in the US where Apple is expected to make some announcements regarding the next generation of the iPhone, expected to be 3G compliance.

I agree with you that this sucks but it is better to wait. Another exciting milestone will be the release of the SDK for the iPhone in February, which will mean that there will surely be issues of compatibility resolved for Enterprise level services such as MS Exchange and Push Synchronisation.

Anyway, my advise, just be a little more patient and wait.
