The conversation re partner, reason for moving etc, sounds fine, very appropriate. BUT, so long as it was not given because of some egotistical guy thought of every single woman seeing every male as a potential partner.

In that case I would have definitely stayed
It reminds me that one couple we went out dinner with ordered a very expensive wine for themselves. Normally we split the total bill with our friends so it was a shocker that our food costed less than their wine and that we had to fork out for a wine we did not even taste
So yes I am the pay for yourself kind of person at heart too
