Re: Split Liability after collision - who pays what?

Hi All,

I was reversing along a road last week when a car reversed out from a parking space and hit me causing considerable damage to my vehicle. My insurance company said that as both parties were reversing it would be split liability 50/50. Today they informed me that split liabilty means that the other parties insurers pay for 50 % of the damage to my vehicle and I am responsible for the other 50%???

I was initially told that split liability would mean my insurers pay for the other parties damage and their insurers would pay for my damage???

I am so confused! Can anyone shed any light on this?
Ahhh... What cover do you have on your policy? What have the 2 companies exactly agreed? Very unlikely that each party's TPL will pay the other party if blame has been deemed to be split, more likely a cap on the TPL has been applied...
