Yes Zurich has a social life just like any other city in the world. Is the social life upto your standards?That is something only you can answer.
You can get by with English but it's a silly question as it's equivalent of a Spanish guy asking if he can get on in UK with just Spanish
That said my German is bad and I have survived here
