I think you maybe right that it depends on the version ..... As for the PS2 games , it is a key point if you already have a large stash of PS2 games or if you have a 5 year old who loves the jump-and-run games , which you get more variety of and cheaply with PS2
. I agree with you that the PS3 games have better graphics and are more challenging ( Love the football ! ) ...
