Re: hiking village to village in July? (randonnees pedestres)

Hello,
I will be in Switzerland from July 5 to August 4 and want to explore various parts of the country on foot. Ideally several loops of 3-5 days each in Ticino, Valais, etc, staying in simple accommodations in villages. ... Any takers or suggestions about how to plan this trip?
This community seems to have quite a few cyclists (both road and mountain), a small number of climbers, and very few hikers. Or maybe hikers tend to be more solitary?

I will be hiking in Switzerland during late July and August, but my plans are pretty set at this stage.

I can, however, point you to some brochures from the Valais Tourist Office. I would suggest that you order them online (free!) as I have found the PDF versions rather grainy. The Tours brochure may be the closest to what you need, as it describes a very large (20+) number of village to village (using huts) tours; some of them are way beyond the 3-4 hours you are seeking, but I believe that others may fit your needs.

Each of the lateral valleys in the Valais has its tourist office, and most organize a "Tour du Val de Whatever", with special rates for the whole package (or, in many cases, parts of it). You will find a list of tourist offices, with their web sites, on my Lodging for the Haute Route page.

I spend most of my time in the Valais, so cannot help much with the rest of this wonderful country!
