Crikey! I never heard that one before - the flats of friends I've visited, plus most of the flats in our building have even got standard Ikea shelves housing a variety of shoes, trainers, slippers, wellies and whatnot.

It is odd seeing as it is definitely "de rigeur" to take your shoes off before going into someone's flat.
