Do all cantons require that one has to move to reside in that canton if their employer is based there ? I would like to know as I know a few people who moved to Zug from the US and had to live in Zug for a year. Does this apply to all cantons? I think not as I see people living and working in different cantons all the time.
Unless there is a different rule for EU and non-EU for this as well.

No, but it is more difficult for a non-eu person to get a permit when they say from the off that they are not going to live there - like so difficult the permit will be refused. When it comes to changes of canton then while it is possible it is not desirable. The permit holder remains on the quota of the issuing canton until such times as they leave the quota system. So dependent on the canton's quota situation they may say you cannot change. The canton to which you move will of course be more than happy to accept you. It is entirely up to the canton as to what they decide and for this you have very limited rights of appeal...
For people from the EU the permit is valid for the whole of Switzerland while for an American you need to wait 5 years and get a C permit for that right.
