Re: What did you compromise on? (property search)
For us it was about character and feel and tons of space, not overlooked, for us, friends, grandchildren and lots of animals- out in the countryside but close to communities and excellent public transport in both directions- France (and onwards to UK ith TGV) and Switzerland- as well as good shopping both sides, and cultural activities both sides. And much cheaper than UK equivalent.
The only compromise was a modern kitchen- but for me size was more important (and one day we might be able to afford one... oink oink) and re-saleability- although such houses with so much space are becoming so rare... we will see. Not intending to sell anyhow. If the £ dropping forces us to go back to UK, we will either rent it or just use it as holiday/rental home. Fortunately got a brilliant neighbour who would take over caretaking, etc.
