I used it for the first time last night - and found the keyboard speed to be extremely lacking. It's extremely slow and entering/correcting my inputs made me so angry that I almost threw the phone against the wall.

I've tried this and am surprised it got good reviews to be honest, I find it pretty pathetic for the reasons you mentioned. I don't really see the use of an IM client that doesn't run in the background either.
