Also not necessary! Cream of tartar is typically used in whipping egg whites (replaces using a copper bowl), or adding an acid to a recipe to react with baking soda (providing leavening). In both cases, a couple of drops of lemon juice will do just fine! If you have a recipe calling for cream of tartar, simply leave it out and add the lemon juice...
