The French region surrounding Geneva is fairly rural, there are lots of small villages to chose from (such as St Genis, Peron, Ornex, Chevry etc). If you would prefer to live in a small town you could try Bellegarde or Divonne le Bains.

If you want to limit the driving time to 40 minutes, then I would recommend looking for somewhere in France that isn't too far away from Geneva (or is at least on the same side of Geneva to where you will work), as the traffic can be quite bad at peak times.
