Re: Trails - Cycling/MTB/Hiking/Skating/Canoeing

Let me add some resources for the Valais, the only part of the country that I know well.

The Valais Tourist Office has a series of excellent brochures, available online, though I prefer to order the free printed versions from here. These brochures include five that describe hikes:
  • Hiking, which describes, best I can tell, easier hikes
  • Tours, which describes a large number of multi day tours, most of which are (or at least have parts that are) more strenuous
  • Waterside Walks, walks along the historic channels which bring water to the vineyards (bisses in French).
  • Themantic Hikes, a brochure that I have not looked at.
  • Winter Hikes which, judging from the distances, seem rather tame to me
I have used the Tours brochure extensively in planning my version of the Haute Route, and done one of the Waterside hikes, which I enjoyed immensely.

There are no language issues; little text, maps and numeric information (distance, elevation gain, hiking time, public transport, differs from brochure to brochure).

Happy hiking!
