i think your contract is referring to what i considered a 'fire tax' more than an insurance! not that i ever objected to paying it. in VD it is a cantonal obligation and you _have_ to pay it. something like 100CHF a year depending on size of apartment and your contents. if you are properly registered with the permit people (new address etc.) you will get a demand in the post. if you are worried contact them:
