Often large companies have good packages that smaller companies cannot afford. Large companies may not require fluency in the local language, English might be enough as long as you are doing a language course (and therefore show interest in staying the long run), they might even pay you to do one (mind you, this is worth asking for even if the company is small).
And as for the benefit of working in a small company, as the previous poster has pointed out, it is like in any other country, I guess: feeling a "part" of the company where everybody knows each other and having "intimate" Christmas dinners
