Knowledge of the language is one thing but, somehow, I think you'll integrate better if you can have a chat in English about local politics, current affairs and pop culture with the locals than being able to speak their language but have no interest in the place you live.

I could speak decent English when I arrived in the UK but it's not until I immersed myself in the local culture that I really started to understand people, pick up the jokes, etc, etc.
