Great thread SoCalCoise !! Maybe I can add something in regards to color co-ordination ? Watch you skin tone/hair in regards to the colors you choose to wear, some colors are really not sexy in winter, when you're pale.
The boots are a must, but just at or below the knee. Boots that cut horizontally across the calf give an illusion of un-necessary thickness, while a correctly cut boot lengthens and slims. Keep the toe slightly pointed. The awful rounded toe does nothing, I hope that fashion will soon be over.
As for the tights, yes yes ! opaque with boots, and slightly transparent with heels. But checkers ? mmmm only for the very slim, not a good idea otherwise, unless you want to look short legged.
