Contrary to popular belief, speed cameras are placed in strategic places to enhance safety, it's absolutely nothing to do with the huge amounts of fines they collect...........LOL

Based on this, local radio stations decided to also play the game and warm motorists of dangerous areas when driving determined by the placement of speeding cameras.

Result, the police couldn't stop the radio stations as they were only enhancing the safety aspect as the police told everybody to start with.

The dialogue has now changed and any radio station who wants to receive it's chunk of state or cantonal subsidy can no longer publicise where the radar traps are as it is considered very bad form, after all, where do the radio subsidies come from if it's not the speed cameras themselves.

Private radio stations who take no subsidies however can carry on, in the interest of safety of course. The catch 22 for the State is that these private radio stations are generating plenty of revenue as more and more people listen to them, so there is less and less chance they will ever need a subsidy. Good hey !!
