Although Hotel Seefeld is nice enough, it's still a hotel bar / cafe / restaurant and always has that transient atmosphere. Try the Schiller bar at the 'Opernhaus' tramstop, a five minute walk and right by Stadelhofen / Bellevue transport hubs.( Not 'Bellevue' in the NYC sense, though.) It's a little bit fancy pants but the place is probably more suited to people watching and getting away from 'home'. Seefeld itself doesn't have much that is charming re. cafes, but your husband will find his feet soon enough; the city has lots of nice cafes.
