I am trying to inform myself on what the law is here regarding cancellation of appointments less than 24 hrs in advance. By law, do these firms have the right to collect 100% of the bill, or does this differ from business to business?

I got charged for the one time I missed my dentists appointment.... never happened again (since then they call me a week and a day beforehand
)
Since they are booked out soo long in advance, I guess they want to make sure that the people get their for the scheduled time...
added: Of course, this does not apply if you have a valid reason why you cannot be there and were not able to cancel the appointment at least 24 hours beforehand.....
