ah but the TTL means that DNS lookup doesn't need to happen and the DNS cache on XP will take care of the connection.

Interesting, never knew that was there! Maybe this was a feature that was added later by MS? At any rate the TTL for englishforum.ch is 1 hour, so it's not likely that the aussie sites were in the DNS cache, and others weren't.

At any rate we are getting a little off topic here - this is a conversation muze7 should really be having with cablecom, not us
