Technically you can drive to any MOT station in the UK if you have a pre-booked appointment and your car is still insured.
"Driving to an MOT test when a SORN is in place
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for that vehicle."
(DVLA)
It is possible to take out short term insurance for this purpose, but this may be dependent on MOT. To get Swiss export plates incl. insurance in Kt. ZH go here: http://www.stva.zh.ch/internet/ds/st...ld_export.html
For other Cantons go to www.asa.ch
Risk of something happening in France is still there of course.
Look for exporters, there are quite a few in Dübendorf, Brüttisellen, Dietlikon. | |

yes you can drive it to a pre-arrange test, but iirc there are extra conditions like it has to be the nearest centre and no more then 1 hour each way, so you can drive it 1 hour before the test (to get to it) and 1 hour back (should it fail). 600 miles to Dover is no no.
you could also try contacting one of the places that sells cars for export only, maybe they could pick it up on dealer plates?
