Hi there,
I have been in Switzerland for 2 months now, and have been working in Zürich for 1 month. At first I was staying miles away from Zürich and my commute was super far. I found a temporary studio apartment in Kreis 4 really quickly, literally 2 days and I was sorted!
Although Kreis 4 isn't the most 'upmarket' part of Zürich it does have character! I also reckon it's a really good introduction to the city! There is nothing like staying in the heart of Zürich!
At the moment I am in the market for a more permanent and bigger apartment... Same issues as others regarding choosing a convenient and vibey area, but what I really would like some info on is the normal rental deposit and lease terms in Switzerland. I have heard that you generally need to put down 3 months rent upfront? That's a lot for someone starting out! Anyone with any experience on what is the norm? Anything I should look out for specifically before signing a lease?
Thanks!

| Try Kreis 4 for six months: you can always 'upgrade' if the environment is too vibrant for you. It's a good introduction to Zürich, and a friendly place to boot! | |
