As for unlocking. I would be very surprised if the phone was unlocked out of the box. The OP would really have to phone Orange and to request an unlock code AFAIK when the iPhone is concerned.

This clears it up. Although the phone is locked to the Orange network, it is possible to request an unlock.
I thought that the phones from Orange were unlocked straight out of the box. At least the ones that don't have contracts. Which this one is.
