I don't want to be rude - but why do you think this shouldn't work? I used to import phones from the US and Hong Kong already 30 years ago and they all worked like a breeze in Swizzyland. I can't imagine why a French phone shouldn't work here. Well, France is a little bit different in many things - but so are we Swiss, aren't we?
How did you do that? US phones use totally different voltages (6 - 12 V instead of 48 V -- pretty bad, huh?) and standards for ring signals (90 V at 20 Hz instead of 60 V at 25 Hz) etc., let alone more sophisticated features such as caller ID and the like.

Maybe there are a few American phones that can be switched to work elsewhere, after all they are all Made In China or thereabaouts anyway, but otherwise I really wonder how you got them working without frying their innards.
