Well if it is just the slippers, be grateful. But a chew toy will solve the problem. First put it in with your dirty wash because it will only be of interest if it smells like you guys. You can also put it inside a shoe to pick up the scent of smelly feet. The "new" smell for some dogs is very unappealing.
Good on you for rescuing the little one.
