| Yep, sérac is different stuff. It is a whey cheese, made from what's left over after all the casein and fat, used to make normal cheese, have been removed. Being a vegetarian with all those great indian dishes to enjoy is really no loss (paneer and pea curry, mmm). | |

I have to say that serac is a poor substitute for real Paneer. We use it when there is no other choice. It is limp, it has not texture it doesn't generally "hold" well.
Under the circumstances, I would give my right arm for Amul Paneer even if it is frozen
