| Yes indeed which is not the same as registering with the handelsamt ie company register. You hold up your hand in the middle of the street and shout yippeee I am self employed and indeed you are. To ensure you make all your contributions you then need to register with the AHV. That is no need to register your company as you will be a sole trader although you can. | |

Just for the record, when I was self employed in Saint Gallen I was advised to register in the company register as this apparently made it easier to open the business bank account, get a phone, claim tax relief for my office etc etc. Of course, I don't know if would have been just as easy if I hadn't regeistered but each of the above asked for a copy of my registration and with it things appeared to move very quickly.
