Actually I don't think so. Maybe I'm wrong about the OP and if I do I apologise, but I find it is an issue with many English speaking expats that they stick their head in the sand to local news and have no idea what is going on around them.

Even if the OP was on ski holiday in Switzerland its something they would have still heard about. If they were out of the country its understandable. Literally every news broadcast on both TV and Radio in the last few weeks has had this as one of the leading stories and it has been in every news paper too.
