Back in the days before Englishforum (heck, it was even before Google!), I packed my worldly possessions into a car and began the long and dangerous journey from Ape Island to Swiss Island. Armed with a map, the words "Ich spreche kein Deutsch" and a fistful of, erm, steering wheel, I began my adventure of living in a dirty foreign country.
I had no idea if my salary would ensure I would not have to steal the stale bread on a Saturday night from the back of the local Migros - nor did I care.
