Because if we got into a firefight with bandits, it would be a lot easier to leave a guy behind than a girl.
...how about we take somebody on a trip whom we generally dislike and as we get atatcked, we'll drop him off the vehicle sort of like a human bait. (And don't get any funny ideas about tossing me from the car).

In some parts, young hairless boys fetch more than girls
I'm sure that you know about that...

Gambia is definitely good, but is there any appetite for...... Tehran?
It would be a lot more scenic than sub Saharan Africa, more souvenir visa stamps and the food along the way will be divine. Its also a lot safer.

3,800 km from CH to Van, Turkey (close to border with Iran) which equals 47 hours non-stop driving. And then another day or so to Tehran, and I would even consider bringing the car back because I plan to go carpet shopping
...alright Castro..let's do it!! But I insist on calling our "vessel" the "Gambia Express"...
