As quickly as I like; sounds like I choose to live with my life "on hold". Take a step and think about what it would be like not to be able to go on holiday; not to buy dinner out; not do anything that wasn't optional and then imagine what it would be like if you found yourself in that position for the best part of 2 years. I didn't choose to be out of the job market for an extended break; If I could have used my time far more productively then I fear I have been able to....
I have to say of all the countries in the world to be unemployed, this must be one of the worst...except for the what I hear is generous unemployment benefit, but then it would have to be here, wouldn't it?

I don't see that the quota makes a lot of difference; instead of being able to get someone from India, they got me in. So I've my job to thank (can I call it thanks? I got paid today, wrongly, for the first time) for the quota - but I came from outside.

Having said that, it must be nice to work in one of these bulletproof industries and not have to worry about the unemployment that a lot of people in the real world in these enlightened, banker fuelled times worry about - unemployment that is 20% in Berlin, capital of the strongest European economy, that will rise steadily all over Europe over the next two years, resulting in 4 million + unemployed in Britain alone and 80s style riots.

A teacher. I should become one. Big holidays and the joys of working with the little people, job satisfaction. Or perhaps a banker. They're still getting big bonuses, despite being bailed out by, er, me. bankers.
