I don't know how keen you are on learning German but I will give you some tips on how I did it... Definately a good thing to watch German TV. But for me, key was actually chatting in German, finding German speaking friends (your husband) to talk to, and listening to German music and translating the lyrics... Some helpful resources got me started were http://dict.leo.org (biligual dictionary) and in the very beginning I used something like google translator to help me understand and write full sentences.
