If you're returning in Kanton Zurich - other Kantons may vary - today is the final day for asking for an extension. Otherwise, they'll start getting uppity, in a well mannered way. Look up 'Fristen' on your local tax site and you should find a link for asking for extensions.
err ....., my ZRH tax form tells me on the front of it when it is due! i received the forms in January and have until 31st October to submit.
