Sorry for the ignorance, but why is the FBAR a big deal? I honestly am curious. It would only hurt a person if they are trying to hide capital gains or something, right?
It is a big deal because I don't think the US government should be able to nose into expat bank accounts. If you're no longer resident in the US, you shouldn't need to tell them what you've got or not. It is intrusive and invasive.
