Nope there is no way a user of the device can extend the memory as there is no external memory expansion slot. Just like the issue with the battery, Apple don't want you to be able to expand the device they just want to you to buy the incremental updates. Eventually it might be useful as phone rather just than as an expensive ipod and iwifi internet sufing device.
