Thank you for clarifying this. I think that the main points that students should be aware of is that, as you say, it is not the same a normal Swiss insurance and, in particular, those that have a pre-existing condition should be clearly informed that they are not covered. This could be a very important for people who might have, for example, diabetes or some other illness. I know they are supposed to read the policy conditions but, how many actually do ?

I notice you say the cover is for Switzerland and abroad but in Article 4 Scope of cover, 4.3 Territoriality, it say ‘only in the case of emergencies’. Can you clarify this as it was rather late in the evening when I read it !

Anyway, thanks for your input as we seemed to have arrived at a point where students and researchers can decide for themselves if this type of policy is suitable for them.

It’s not the same as a normal Swiss policy.
Do read the conditions, particularly if you have an existing medical condition.
It’s cheap !
