Yeah tried all the usual sites.....good point about the crawling distance and maybe soundproofed walls would be a good idea for the late night singing!!!

I did a search a found many apartments (homegate and http://immo.search.ch/ ). It sounds like you want to live in a very particular part of Basel that has the old Jungendstil houses with pressed ceilings etc.

If so, maybe you should get yourself registered with an agency of sorts.
