| | | Wanted: Furnished Apartment Zurich, Late December Onwards...
Hello,
My wife and I are moving to Zurich around 28th December and need a furnished flat/apartment to rent. Details of what we're looking for as follows:
- City, Oberstrasse, Wipkingen, Industrie, Hottingen areas (Homegate classifications)
- Ideally close to ETH Honggerburg (or within 15-20mins transfer)
- 2.5 room (i.e. separate bedroom to main living room)
- Available from late December on 6-12mth rental preferred
- Parking not needed/not essential
If you have anything that would fit the bill we're fairly flexible on the rooms, 1.5 - 3.5 would be considered, however we are looking to be within 15-20mins of ETH Honggerburg if possible for the location.
If anyone knows of anything available please reply and let us know!

Please see the attached link. link
The apartment is in Höngg which is really close to ETH. It's not my rental or anything but I saw it on Craiglists the other day and it looks like it could be ideal for you, if it isn't already taken.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info, we may look into that.
Has anyone got any tips for websites other than homegate to look on for apartments? Most other websites I've seen are offering flats for weeks or a couple of months max - where as we're looking for a longer term rental, i.e. 6 months to a year.

hi,
i think you should talk to an agency. for such a long term they can help you better then any website.
i have a friend that was very satisfied with the services of these 2 agencies, for her first home: www.visiongmbh.ch and her second home: www.fischerimmobilien.ch
good luck!

Thanks - will check out both agencies. I'm still mostly relying on homegate e-mail updates at the moment!
I was also thinking about unfurnished apartments - are there many places in Zurich selling affordable furniture? How accessible is IKEA for example, and can it be reached by public transport?

I have done an Ikea (Dietlikon) trip by public transport, but it's really hard carrying those boxes on your back!! Check out Mobility car rental for a flexible, relatively inexpensive solution.

The layout of IKEA is at times very perplexing! I suspected that we may need to go along this route. Thanks for the advice.

Haven't been there myself, so can't confirm or otherwise.

I gather that this one is only a year or two old, so may have a better layout.

Here's hoping we can move out of our place soon so we can suggest it to to you! Nothing wrong with it, meets all your requirements, we just have personal reasons moving on. In any case, if you are with the ETH, they provide a great deal on car and van rentals. I think it'll be cheaper and faster for you to rent a van and do everything in one go rather than suffer through the schlepping to and from and Dietikon.
Good luck
L.

I rented a van at Ikea and spent something around 30 francs for an hour.
But you might have to reserve one of them before buying the stuff, as a lot of people use them. Or you can reserve it when you get there, shop and leave all the things in their storage room, but it depends how many things you buy (the max is around a couple of their carts), and then go back on the day you reserved the van to collect your stuff.

Thanks for all the advice - if we don't get somewhere furnished I'll definitely look at the car/van rental angle to get furniture (providing I can't find some second hand).
Hopefully we'll get sorted soon.
