3rd December - 2nd Jan. We are British and are looking to rent a homely apartment for this period. Our son (23 Yrs) is having major hip surgery at the Uniklinik Balgrist and will be in hospital for 8 - 10 days. We wish to stay in Zurich for the following 2 weeks just to see that things have settled down. Our daughter (26 yrs.) will be joining us on the 21st December for the remaining time. So, in an ideal world a 3 bedroom apartment would be wonderful but we know scarce. Or son is to be non weight bearing for 3 months after the op so somewhere without steps and a walk-in shower is essential. Off street parking and broadband internet connection would be extremely useful. We are non-smokers and clean tidy people! We would be so grateful if anyone had any suggestions for us?

Perhaps I should move this to "Apartments" and not "Introductions". (see the notice at the top of introductions that says "Posting your introduction read this first" if not clear).

Anyway, onto your question - your chances of finding someone who is leaving for just that period and renting their apartment to you is extremely small. You would be better off looking for accomodation via the usual channels.

As for tips - this question has been asked many times before, and our members have provided numerous links to places providing short term and temporary accomodation - please browse the forum for relevant messages and post any specific questions directly to those threads. Three bedrooms is going to be EXTREMELY difficult to find for just one month I would guess!

Unfortunately as you will discover, Zurich's accomodation market works somewhat differently to the UK :-(

I can't help you directly but perhaps the clinic can: I'm sure they have this issue to respond to on a regular basis.

I do know one very nice rehab clinic on the lake of Constance - Klinik Schloss Mammern http://www.klinik-schloss-mammern.ch/ - which is utterly magnificent, although around 45 mins away. They offer full service rehab and guest accomodation in beautiful lakeside surroundings.

Perhaps you could search for 'Apparthotels' in Zurich, there're are plenty of them with full service facilities, although you'll pay a fair whack for this. There's a large one at the hotel Intercontinental. Considering the short duration stay against residential stay, maybe a hotel would work out just as affordable? Send a few e-mails and see what they can offer - and tell them your story too. Good luck!
