Flat Hunting in Zurich

My girlfriend and I are looking for a flat to rent in or around Zurich. We are really not too fussy (we can't afford to be). But we really need somewhere sorted by Augaust at the latest as that is when my girlfriend starts work. Being near transport would be helpful.

If anyone knows of any flats available around July/Augaust, or is moving out and needs to find some new tennants please let me know.

Cheers

Sam

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

have you looked on www.homegate.ch or www.immoscout24.ch?

Both have English interfaces.

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

hi Sam,

when you say you can't afford to be fussy, I take it you mean you can't afford to spend too much on housing. if that's the case, marktplatz.unizh.ch might be worth checking out. It's a German-language thing run by the University here, and tends to have a lot of affordable housing options ("Wohnungen," then "Angebote" section). I found my last apartment through them.

good luck!

DMA
Hello,

Yeah I am still looking for a flat, but end of march is a little early for me. End of June/begining of July or anytime after would be best.

Cheers Though

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

Hi everyone

Sorry I can't help with Sambc's need for an apartment. I was following the thread as we are about to start looking ourselves - just wondered if there was a definitive list of places to look online (pref. w. some English - though I realise that renting terms should be a key part of my beginners German )

Any seasoned advice on seaching via internet v. agents and pitfalls much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, I know there is a lot of wisdom out there

www.homegate.ch or www.immoscout24.ch are the two web sites that i have been recomended and am using, there seems to be quite a bit on them. The info can be viewed in English.

Hope that helps,

Sam

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

it's usual for tenants to give 3 months notice on an apartment - this should help you figure out when is best to look if 'now' is too soon.

try also www.xpatxchange.ch I saw a few on there today. Personally homegate.ch as previously mentioned (is also in English) is your best bet.
As in most cities, the closer you are to the centre the smaller & more expensive places tend to be - but's that's a given, right!
If you can get someone who speaks German to go through the contract and be there when you take over an apartment then thats the best way forward.
Happy house hunting.

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

Thanks for the suggestions and the good advice = look forward to hearing how other people are doing with this.

I also heard that there are 'big moving days', ie particular dates when notice periods tend to end and new tenancies start? April 1st and July 1st were mentioned - timing seems to matter a lot when there is a standard 3 month notice period, even for our temp. apartment. Dord anyone know about these important dates?

Re: Flat Hunting in Zurich

Hi,

maybe could be a bit too early for you also, but I am moving out this month, and my flat is in the very center of Zürich, by Grossmünster, if you know a little. So that you can have an idea, it's 30 meter (but enough for me and my girlfriend) and the price is 1580 NB inkl.

If you, or anyone reading, have interest, just contact me at:
