I'm moving to Zurich June 1st and starting work June 5th on a 3 month contract for a Bank in the Kloten area. I need a place to stay - I've gone thru the on-line agencies and will start viewing once I arrive but thought it worth mentioning here in case anyone knew of a place and had any other suggestions.

Yep, that's the Bank and thanks for the link. Another thing, I'm going to replace my laptop. Should I do it in the UK or wait until I get to Zurich?

when you say 3 month contract, you mean rolling? And you want to stay beyond 3 months?

WRT laptop, you will get a localised keyboard on a model here. I actually wouldn't have it any other way but of course I've been here quite a while now.

Laptops: www.toppreise.ch does comparisons and you can also look at dell.ch etc. Actually, I'd only recommend IBM personally but have had good experiences with Sony VAIO except the mobo cracking when my wife dropped it....

Having problems finding a place with WiFi, I only hope it's easier when I am there next week.

Avoiding a flat share but ending up in one room digs... check out Swiss Star apartments in Kloten. CHF 1600 per moth, quite steep though.
I used them for a few weeks while geting myself sorted, And I was at the same Opfikon Investment bank type place you'll be at....
I mention them 'coz they have wifi throughout now.
Perhaps not what you're looking for, sorry if useless advice :-)

Incidently, the Imagine bar in Zurich main station has free wifi; just see how long you can make a beer last...

Hi All!

If you are looking for a wifi there are some places you can go to:
Starbucks at Stauffacher is one (so no beer, only fattening creaming coffee and muffins); there is also the Wing's bar, in Limmatquai (beers and coffee too, easy going place). I have a friend who was looking for a job and spent most of his days there surfing on the net while contacting people.

Don't rate your chances of a reply as he hasn't been online in a year (and he was only in switzerland for 3 months anyway). You'll save yourself some wasted effort by checking the dates the threads were posted before replying. Have you tried www.wgzimmer.ch ? you can post what you are looking for and should get quite a few replies.
