However, there's also an upstairs 'bit' (not sure it counts as a mezzanine) up a ladder (on top of the kitchen/bathroom) where I have a double futon and have used as a guest bed. Not standing room and not really what you'd call living space though... | Quote: | | | | | You've given us the length of the local swimming pool , but not the size of the apartment....sqm ? | | | | | That's because honestly I don't know! I scoured my contract and paperwork etc. but can't find the sqm quoted anywhere, and didn't want to just take a wild guess and be wrong... false advertising and all that... But since you ask my guess would be ca. 70sqm (comparing it with other apartments I've lived in where the sqm was quoted on the paperwork!).

This is the standard way of describing apartments in CH. Where there's a 0.5 to the number, it just means that there's either extra small place or one of the rooms are slightly bigger.
Cheers.

Cheers. | | | | | I thought the 0.5 described a large open plan lounge diner? so a 2.5 room apartment would be 1 bedroom with open plan living room big enough to fit a dining table? a 2 room apartment would be a 1 bedroom apartment with single living room
my apartment is 3.5 rooms, 2 bedrooms and a large open plan lounge/diner
Is this not the case?

Is this not the case? | | | | | Yes it could be the case for a 2.5. But it could also be that you have two normal sized rooms and a reasonable sized entrance hall (another example).
The 0.5 rooms is just extra space tacked on. It could be connected to an existing room or it could be a small stand-alone space..
It's hard to say sometimes as there seems to be varying ways of calculating apartment features. I've been to a place with a larger than normal sized kitchen and they included that in the number of rooms so this 3-room place had 2 rooms that you could use and a big kitchen which you can't make into a lounge, dining nor study (not really for me). But this was an exception.
What bugs me the most is when they give the floor space for the kitchen. It's never clear whether it's wall-to-wall or standing room. I don't know if there are actual guidelines, but most people don't follow them. So until you see a place, you don't always know what you'll get. That's my rule of thumb.
