I don't know if this Angloinfo Site with short-term accomodation in Geneva is any good, but it might be worth looking at.

I need something more solid, but affordable. I am quitting my job to study for a year, so I need an affordable apartment.

I didn't see it mentioned but there are many homes for sale through the banks websites.

GKB.ch lists a number of apartments/homes for sale in Flims, Laax etc
and usually no realtor involved. Actually, they list all over Graubunden you just have to enter the postal code

Be very careful.

There are many crooks advertising in the small advertisements! Do not send any money! They trick you into sending money "To show good faith"

Only pay the deposit and the rent into a Swiss bank account, and only after you have been inside the appartment and have a contract!

Do not pay anything until you have seen the flat and have a contract!
