Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member
I never knew Begga. I never even read one of her posts until the 1000th post link that Grumpy linked above. Damn I wish I'd known this person - vibrant, optimistic, cheeky, fun loving - a special rare kind of person that comes along once in a while to outshine brightly the humdrum and routine.
Even though I never knew this person (and I apologise for posting here in case those of you that had the opportunity to know her feel I'm somehow trespassing) I share the sense of loss at a life cut so tragically short.

Never met Begga, but the hurt and terrible sadness, total disbelief, of her close friends say it all. I am so desperately sorry that she lost her wonderful life in my country - my heart goes out to her partner, her family and friends, and little Teckla.

Very sad news but also nice to see EFers being real and united for the sake of one beloved member. Shows that this is truly not just like any other internet forum (i never really joined any other).
May Begga continue to live and contribute something to our lives and to enquiring newcomers through her 2000+ posts.

I was just wondering if it's rude to ask what the funeral arrangements are. If she is taken back to Iceland I dread to think what the costs would be. Would it be worth having a get together (maybe at the next Ploughman's lunch event where she often went and/or something in Basel) and maybe organise a collection for her family? I hope this last section isn't inappropriate.
I couldn’t be able to make it to Basel but, if fund raising is needed to help her family, I’ll gladly contribute.

I was thinking about posting that but had my reservations. It was the one and only time I ever met Begga but I'll never forget her making me laugh that day.
(that's my horse laugh on the vid as I was filming )
edit: noticed the vid wasn't playing so had to quickly change the settings so it could be embedded, appears ok now.

I know me too thought twice about it, but i think it is nice to see her like she was always the fun loving girl she was. People turn the volume off so you can`t hear the horse laugh.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member
It`s sad to lose anyone - but to lose someone special is very hard. She was a vibrant person who has obviously touched many people`s lives.
My sincere condolelences to her family and close friends.
Begga you are deeply missed already.
I din`t know you that well, having only met you on a few occasions - but I write this with a heavy heart.
Reading so many beautiful posts and testimonies, it makes one realise that this English Forum is like a sort of family in itself.
In the 18 months that I have been a member - I have begun to feel that certain sense of belonging and it`s comforting to know that there are some big hearted people out there.
I guess we lost one of our own . . . one of our best.
Now it`s nice to read and remember all the nice vibes that Begga brought to the Forum.
Rest in peace Begga.

Rest in Peace Begga. You always made me feel like part of the group, you were the life and soul of the party, so funny ans kind hearted and not a bad bone in your body. Miss you already with your cheeky grin and laughter.
The first time I met you was at one of the Basel Curry night and we brought the two kids and even though you didnt know me you talked and talked to my girls.
Then we went to Redrocks and you sang your song and danced on tables and didnt give a damn of what anyone thought and just made everyone happy.
RIP Begga you will be missed by us all.

Words fail me.
RIP, and I am sure you are still smirking, Beggs. Kindly...
I know nobody should die. But why a person who is drinking life with gulps others wouldn't even attempt, having a riot about it and still taking people sincerely...I will miss Begg's giant heart.
Sleep well or party hard, whatever is goin' on up there, our blonde Princess. You will always stay with us, either in our memories, on photos or in your warm, intelligent and fun posts recorded here for ever.

There has been a steady stream of mutual friends and Efers visiting me at the market this afternoon. The last 2 hours were an impromptu wake and, apart from some moist and red eyes, it was held in a way that Begga would have approved of. With smiles, laughs, hugs and plenty to drink.
Guilty as charged. I have to thank you Grumpy as it was really good to meet and talk. It helped a lot. I'm still finding this difficult to coprehend.
I found this picture today. Ironically Begga never saw it, and neither did anybody else as it was, IMO at the time, a reject from a Zurich photo session. Looking at it again this morning it showed all of the things that I mentioned in my first post in this thread - the wonder, enthusiasm and the smile.
The other ironic thing is that despite often taking photographs together, I don't have many of her.

I'm truly shocked and cannot get my head around being on EF without Begga, i never met her but i always felt i have known her very well, she was definitely a bright and sincere woman who helped so many people and added a smile on many faces.
Begga, you have always and will always be in our hearts, you were always a star in life and now you are where you belong, a bright shining star in the sky.....
RIP Begga

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member
Desperately sad news, shocking and sickening. I never had the pleasure of meeting Begga in person but the way I feel now astonishes me - that you can feel the loss of one of the best personalities in life even if you've only known them on an internet forum like this. As many others have said Begga had a clearly vivacious and loving personality and my thoughts go to those of you who knew her better and her family.

Uh, wow. I think I only met her twice, but I remember such a vivid picture of her face and can still recall her happy voice. Thinking of her killed in an accident now gives me a sad feeling of disbelief.
May she rest in piece.

I never met Begga but all I can say is her tragic passing is so very sad
and unfair!!Life can be so unkind..I always thought death was meant for
old, sickly people, not young people like Begga in the prime of her life.
May she continue shining brightly wherever she may be.

Oh my goodness. I had no idea.... this is so so sad.
I never met her but somehow when you connect online with someone - especially here on EF - you feel close to them.
She won't be forgotten that's for sure, and her memory will be always here in her posts on EF. To those that knew her in "real life" I send many thoughts and hugs. She was gone too soon

Maybe a moment of silence and a small dedication to our dearest Begga, you'll be always in our hearts and will always be missed.....enjoy it wherever you are now
